Assistive Devices
Various devices and equipment can
assist clients in maintaining or increasing their functional capabilities. Our staff helps to identify products and any necessary
modifications or customization to best meet each client’s needs. Instruction provided at the Center ensures
that clients get the most out of modern technology.
Some of the many examples of assistive
devices include:
Daily Living
Equipment –
Vibratory alert systems, such as a liquid level indicator, color identifier,
long-ring timer and vibrating money identifier.
Alternative Communication – Telephone systems with Braille or large
print access, vibra-tactile signal system, Closed Circuit TeleVision (CCTV magnifier), assistive listening
devices for use in one-to-one or group settings, Braille/Print aids, dry
erase boards and various writing products that allow meaningful
communication.
Computer adaptations – Software adaptations allow information to be
displayed in Braille, large print, or synthesized speech. Hardware devices include portable word
processing note takers, Braille embossers, and scan-and-read equipment.
