Prior
to implementation of formal services and training, a comprehensive assessment
is conducted to determine the individual’s current skill levels, needs, and
interests.
The
assessment process allows staff to gather background information, such as age at the onset of each disability,
the severity of losses, motivation, and level of coping.
The process includes formal testing, consultation with other
involved community providers, and interviews with the client and family
members. Careful analysis of all information by the staff leads to the design
of a service plan with realistic goals and outcomes.
